What was Achaan Chah's real voice? None of those who have met him would be able to tell. He could be harsh or fatherly, comforting, inspiring or frightening, and all of this added a refined sense of humor that left people literally speechless. Depending on who listened to him, he taught with traditional Buddhist terminology or presented the truth by means of analogies and tales of everyday topic: and he always managed to enter the hearts of the listeners. Paul Breiter, one of his earliest disciples, translated here (thanks to miraculously preserved recordings) some of the long evening talks in the forest in which the Thai master gave his disciples valuable teachings on the path from hearing the dhamma to being dhamma.
