The practice of wisdom

Author: Dalai Lama

What is true wisdom? Is it possible for the men of our times, so superficial and dispersive, to develop wisdom, live it in daily existence, and achieve authentic serenity, lasting inner well-being and "compassionate" harmony with the creatures of the universe? The Dalai Lama answers these questions by commenting on a classic of Indian Buddhism, "The Way of the Bodhisattva," a verse text composed by the monk Shantideva in the ninth century. In particular, the Dalai Lama focuses on the ninth chapter, considered by Tibetan Buddhism as one of the most authentic testimonies of the Buddha's teaching. The Dalai Lama provides an illuminating interpretation of those ancient words, full of advice, practical suggestions, examples capable of speaking to the reader's heart, to lead him to develop a "daily", concrete, practicable wisdom, without the need for exhausting maceration or complicated rituals.
