Manjushri is a Bodhisattva, and in Mahayana Buddhism he represents the Transcendental Wisdom of the Buddha. As such it is mentioned many times in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, among the most ancient texts of Mahayana Buddhism. He is represented seated in the Lotus position, and holds a flaming sword in his right hand, to cut ignorance and the dualistic vision of reality. In his left hand he holds a lotus flower on which rests the text of the Prajnaparamita Sutra in 80,000 verses.
Manjushri has been revered in the tantric practice of China, Tibet, Nepal, Japan and Indonesia.
