Prisoners of Shangri-la
Author: Donald S.Lopez Jr.
Tibet has long been present in our imagination. Since the first contacts of the Venetian merchants with the Tibetan monks at the Mongolian court, the mysterious tales of that land in the mountains and of the magic of that strange religion have had a particular impact on the imagination of Westerners. Lopez's book explores and focuses on the myths, preconceptions and opinions that the West has built on Tibet; at the end of the reading it will be thought that there was no better way to throw a light beam on the complexity of Tibetan culture, of course, but also on the projections, desires and confusions of our mind and our society.
