Can a woman become a Buddha? The present analysis, which brings together materials and reflections collected in more than ten years of study and research, focuses on the role played by women in Hinduism and Indo-Tibetan Buddhism in a period roughly between the fifth century BC. C. and the thirteenth century AD. C. Carla Gianotti analyzes four female figures identified as paradigmatic: the dakini, the demoness srin mo, the bodhisattva of female form and the teacher of Dharma, highlighting the irreplaceable importance of women in the oriental religious universe.
