Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term formed from "ayus" (life), and "ved" (knowledge, or science). So Ayurveda is the science of life, the knowledge of life or a knowledge-based system of life. At the same time, it is also a medical system, i.e. a method that systematizes and applies knowledge about the state of health and the state of malattia, on the states of equilibrium and imbalance of living beings; which indicates how imbalances can be corrected and how balance can be maintained. Ayurveda is generally considered a therapeutic method, but it should be noted that it includes all aspects of the well-being of living beings, the physical, psychic and spiritual, being the "ayus", or life, made up of body, organs of senses, mind and soul.

According to Ayurveda, health is not just the absence of malebe, of malattia, but a state of continuous well-being and contentment, a state of physical, mental and spiritual happiness. An ancient text defines Ayurveda "the discipline thanks to which it is possible to distinguish healthy and happy ways of life from unhealthy and unhappy ones, thanks to which it is possible to know what is good and what harms health and happiness, and to know the true nature of life ". It therefore presides not only on the perfect functioning of our systems and organs, of our psyche and of our spirit, but also on the relationship of happy coexistence with all creatures.
