Sakyamuni Buddha o Gautama Buddha was the founder of Buddhism, more than 2500 years ago, in India. He lived between approximately 566 BC and 486 BC and came from a wealthy and noble family of the Śākya clan. He was born in Lumbini, today in Nepal, he reached Enlightenment in Bodhgaya and performed Parinirvana (died) in Kushinagar, today in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He is represented with the robes of a monk, one hand in the meditative balance position holding a bowl full of nectar, the other, the right hand, touches the ground at the height of the right knee, in the position that defeats all fear.
