The Medicine Buddha also called "the Lapis Lazuli Blue Light King" in Mahayana Buddhism is the Buddha who heals all sickness and suffering with his teachings. A Sanskrit text of the Medicine Buddha Sutra dated 7th century CE has been found in Gilgit in modern day Pakistan. He is represented as a monk, seated in the lotus position, holding in his left hand on his lap a vase full of nectar-medicine that cures every disease, and with his right hand on his right knee he holds a branch with the fruits of the prune plum. It is revered both in Tibetan Buddhism and in Chinese and Japanese Buddhism.
