Buddha Sakyamuni or Gautama Buddha was the founder of Buddhism more than 2500 years ago in India. He lived approximately between 566 BC and 486 BC and came from a wealthy and noble family of the Śākya clan. He was born in Lumbini, today in Nepal, reached Enlightenment in Bodhgaya and achieved Parinirvana (died) in Kushinagar, today in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
He is represented in monk robes, one hand in the position of meditative balance holding a bowl full of nectar, the other, the right hand, touching the ground at the height of the right knee, in the position that defeats all fear.
