Gilded bronze Buddha of Medicine statue
The Medicine Buddha also called "the blue light king of lapis lazuli" in Mahayana Buddhism is the Buddha who heals all sickness and suffering with his teachings. A Sanskrit text of the Medicine Buddha Sutra dated 7th century CE has been found in Gilgit in modern day Pakistan. He is represented as a monk, seated in the lotus position, holding in his left hand on his lap a vase full of nectar-medicine that cures every disease, and with his right hand on his right knee he holds a branch with the fruits of the prune plum. It is revered in both Tibetan Buddhism and Chinese and Japanese Buddhism.
