The yoga of the sun
Author: Surya Namaskara
Born as an act of devotion to the sun, the divinity who gives life with its energy rays, the Surya Namaskara, or 'salutation to the sun', consists of a series of ten asanas practiced at dawn. Combined with breathing exercises, mantras and mudras, these asanas generate a profound psychophysical well-being and are an excellent introduction to the postures of Hatha Yoga. The author, a well-known Indian diplomat, has cultivated this practice all his life after learning it from his father, who deserves the credit for introducing it to schools.
